Ice Cream Social

Bogie had an ice cream social on Saturday. I went back and forth on whether or not to do a party, so in the end, I tried to do a small get together. Somehow it didn't turn out so small. The boy has got a lot of friends. (He's a Dunbar, they're really popular in these parts.)

Here is the table mostly set up. And little man trying to figure out what he wants.
"Ummmm, I think I'll take one of these..."
Then I got this fabulous idea from Nancy who had a Bakery Party, and she played "Pin the Cherry on the Cupcake." I just tweaked it and turned mine into an icecream cone. This is what your game looks like when you decide to put it together the night before at 10pm.
I know, cherries are red, but all my red paper was gone. Of course, I didn't discover this until it was too late. Ah, well. The kids had fun.

My brother is the one, who walked around the party taking pictures. He took like a gazillion. Which I am so thankful for. He also did that on my wedding day and now I have pictures of everyone who attended. (Thanks Adam!) Of course 200 pictures were of his little guy.

We did the pinata  (which will get  its own post tomorrow) before we had cupcakes, that's why Bogie's got a sucker in his mouth. It didn't stop him from digging into a cupcake. I paid for that mistake all day Sunday.

Bogie got wheels. Our "river" friends got him the jet ski. It's so cool.
Monkey decided he needed more icecream towards the end of the party. This is how we found him. Lovely.
I'm still in shock that Bogie is TWO.

Two, He's Two

Happy Birthday, my dear sweet, fiesty Bogie.
I love you more than words.
~mommy
On your second birthday you:
Love your daddy. All you want is daddy. All you say is Daddy. For the first 23 months of your life all you wanted was mommy, and now, if daddy is home you don't know that mommy exists.
You can put up to five words together. The other day at the market when you let your balloon go, the poor box boy who came around the corner was ordered with," Get it down, my balloon!" Of which, he promptly did.
You say, "I won!" for everything and you throw your hands up like a football referee.
You always eat standing up. And I can't keep you clean for anything.
Braley is still your lovie, by YOUR choice.
Your heart is almost completely healed now.
Your skin however is a different story. Every 3 weeks we see your dermatologist.
On demand, you will howl like the wolves, beat your chest like a gorilla, and whoot like an owl.
And you are absolutely perfect.

March Madness

This is so not a post about basketball.
March is turning into a crazy busy month for us. I haven't had any time to be on the computer or even home. We have something going on practically every day. But that's okay, such is life, as long as it's in spurts, right?
My little chalkboard reminder has helped me keep things in perspective.

Or even double it or triple it or whatever.
I'll be back soon with pictures and stories.

On Motherhood

No matter how many times you get them a "Drink, please!"
Which adds up to sippy cup upon sippy cup, you do it.

Just so you can snuggle with them while they drink their milk, or way-watered down juice.
Because all mom's know that these days are numbered.

"Motherhood is learning to live with your heart outside your body."
I've always loved this quote.

Chop Sticks

We went to Pick Up Stix for dinner. Bogie was mesmerized by the windows and watching the rain come down.
Monkey wanted to use chop sticks.  He insisted on it. Chinese people use chop sticks.
Finally the great waiter of sorts brought us some "training wheels" for chop sticks.
They helped a little bit.

Monkey ate a few bites and then thought it would be more fun to talk with the little boy down the booth seat. "Hi, I'm Monkey. I have a Leapster. Do you have a Leapster. I can use chopsticks. Can you use chopsticks? This is Soy Sauce..."
He's just like his dad. Makes friends where ever he goes.

So, do you use chopsticks?

Jump, Jump, Jump

Get ready. Are you ready?
I'm just setting my controls.
Those hands are almost two years old. The dimples in the skin are starting to stretch out. Pretty soon they're going to look like little boy hands.

{sigh}

He already bounces like a big boy.

So today I'm going to squeeze this little guy all I want. Just because I can.

Kitchen Catch-Up

So, this is what my kitchen looked like last week. And maybe it's because, I'd die if you came over and it actually looked like this, but truly this was taken on a Thursday afternoon, after I'd been dealing with ear infections, amoxilcillin which induced diarhea, which induced vomitting... yeah, woe is me. But this post is not about that, its about this pretty little kitchen.

Short story: Five years ago, after Mr. Dunbar and I had lived here a year or so, I told him I wanted new counter tops and a new sink. He said sure let's price it out, so we went to the Home Depot and asked the kind lady at the Design Center, "How much counters would be? And that we didn't even need granite, just something to update our kitchen."  She gave us the lovely price of $4,000. Umm. Okay, I guess not. This is not our forever house, so no need to dump money like that here. Then I told Mr. Dunbar I really wanted a new sink and he lovingly told me that this wasn't possible without removing the countertops. Hence. I was stuck with what we had. I was washing our dishes in a sixty year old sink! I didn't take a picture of the inside of the sink but I really wish I had. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't pretty either.

All cleared off and ready to have that counter removed. We were pretty sure, that these were the original counters, but not positive until it came down and we found no paint at all on the walls behind the back splash. My house was built in 1947. That counter top and sink were vintage.
Here we go...
Beautiful new cast iron sink.
It couldn't be that easy, there were still walls to take care of, plumbing and electrical work. And my garbage disposal hook up, threw these guys for a loop. Did I tell you we were the first people to install a garbage disposal in this house?  The previous owners drove a Mercedes and BMW and they didn't put in a garbage disposal. Still boggles my mind. Okay, back to countertops...
Oh and playing of course.
They're both working on different outlets. Notice Mr. Salinas wearing glasses. Old guy.
Time for me to paint.
Ahhh.... looking so much better.
Remember, this is what it looked like before.
And after.
And a shot of my new sink. It's glorious.

You know, never in my life, would I have thought I'd spend all of my Christmas money on home improvements. Ever. Especially over something like counter tops!  I'm more like a new handbag, new shoes (Still coveting those Tory Burch flats), or maybe some new sunglasses, kind of girl. But I really spend more time and effort in this kitchen than any where else these days. Does this mean I'm all grown up now?

Sitll some more small things to come.
Are you as excited as I am over things like this?

Now, Dunbar is Scottish...

But until the Scot's get a holiday, we'll just go with St. Patrick's Day.

Here are a few more pictures of the boys from their March photoshoot.
In this last picture, Monkey was telling me he was a pirate, aargh.

And of course, I have to start out the week with one of my semi- funny stories.
We didn't go to the market this weekend because of all of the stuff going on in our kitchen. So this morning, I loaded up the boys, and we headed to the market, not in a hurry or anything. As I was turning into the parking lot, I realized that I was shaking my foot in and out of my "boot", like you would do with flip flops... wait a minute, you can't do that with boots!?! I looked down only to realize, I had gotten in the car and all the way to the store, wearing my slippers.
Yeah, you read that right. I went to the market today in my slippers. My only saving grace is that they are in fact Ugg slippers. The oldest pair of Uggs that still reside in my closet. So my toes were covered in sheepskin, and my brain was telling me I had my boots on.
I did come home and make a yummy dinner. Inspired of course, by the green broccoli.
