Scanned, Poked, Scanned, Poked, Admitted, Poked

So here’s the long version of our week with Bogie. Friday night he fell off of Monkey’s bed. When I got to him he was doing the silent cry and couldn’t catch his breath. He went limp in my arms and passed out for a few seconds. After he came to, he fell asleep within minutes. But it was already after 9pm and we figured he was just tired from the long day.  He slept in our bed. Just so we could monitor him. He seemed fine.
Saturday he was a little groggy and whining but nothing out of the ordinary.
Sunday morning after church Mr. Dunbar took the boys to the market. Bogie starting throwing up again and again. So Mr. Dunbar took him to Urgent Care. When the Doctor came in he thought it would be best to do a CT scan to rule out any bleeding or swelling in the brain. It came back negative and we were told to go home, it was probably something viral that coincided with his fall. We were told to make an appointment the following day with Bogie’s regular pediatrician.
Monday morning he seemed okay. So I didn’t call the pediatrician immediately. By 9am Bogie was crying that his head hurt and laying on the floor of his room with his head down. He didn’t want to be turned over or held. So I called the pediatrician’s office to make an appointment, his regular doctor was not in but another doctor would be seeing him. On the way, the doctor’s office called and said not to bring him in but to take him directly to the emergency room. So that’s where I took him. He started vomiting and screaming in the car, which led to more vomiting. In the emergency room Bogie was real lethargic and any time he was sat up for any reason he would vomit again. They completed another CT scan, chest X-ray, urine and blood tests. Everything came back negative. But he was on the verge of becoming dehydrated. The ER nurses tried in eight different places to get an IV in with no success. Finally he stopped vomiting for close to two hours, he ate some jello and water and they told us to go home and bring him back the next day for a follow-up appointment with his normal pediatrician as they had no concrete reason to keep him.
Tuesday, again he woke up fine. Seemed back to normal, a little crabby but nothing to rush back to the hospital over. By noon he had vomited everything back up and was back on the floor with his face down. Again, not wanting to be touched. I took him to his appointment, his pediatrician took one look at him and said she’d be back in a few minutes. When she came back she said they were going to admit him to the hospital over night. The hospital neurologist had Bogie’s chart on his desk and wanted him admitted on the grounds that his concussion symptoms were not getting better. Within an hour he was upstairs in a room.
The pediatric nurses tried six times to get an IV into him. One of the hardest things was hearing Bogie scream over and over, “No Thank You!!! No Thank You!” Or “Almost done, almost done.” And every single time it was not almost done.  All of Bogie’s veins kept blowing, the nurse would get the IV in and then it would turn blue. Bogie’s veins were just that dehydrated and fragile. Our nurse finally said, “Let’s take a 20 minute break, let him rest and then we’ll try again one final time.”  He came back armed with an infrared light found a vein in Bogie’s foot that hadn’t been tapped out and got the line in.  Later he told Mr. Dunbar that was the power of prayer. How cool was that that our nurse took a break to pray that he would get Bogie’s IV in?

Within hours of getting the IV line in Bogie started to perk up.  It’s amazing what intravenous meds can do.IMG_4135

When he tried to grab Starbucks through the bars the Doctors thought he’ was ready to go home.

Bogie was discharged about 24 hours after he was admitted. He’s doing okay today.  He screamed all the way to the check up appointment. But stopped when we got home. Right now he's sleeping.
I need a margarita and then a nap.

Oh my word Irene! Your poor poor Bogie, and poor you!! I can't even imagine. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I read this post. I'm so glad that he is doing much better. What a scare. You got me all teary eyed when you said that he would cry "no thank you" when they were trying to get his iv in. And how cool is that what the nurse said about the power of prayer.

I sure hope you get your nap and that margarita soon!!! Big hugs to you.

oh my goodness...wow...how difficult that would be to see that...I hope he is still doing much better and will continue to do so...I'm all teary-eyed because it is soo hard to see your child go through things that you would rather happen to yourself...
and how powerful of that nurse

I am so glad Bogie is ok, but man that is a scary situation to be in. The whole "no thank you" thing just made me a little sad, but what nice manners he has. That is exactly how my little guy is when something is happening that he doesn't care for. Just breaks your heart. Love that the nurse prayed for the IV to work....and it did. God is good!

If you lived close by I would bring you a margarita....you deserve one!

Me again...

Just wanted to say that I checked the website, and your right, I don't see Oh Shoot listed anywhere, just the portraiture class. I asked the teacher in the forum if she is not going to be teaching Oh Shoot anymore, so I'll let you know when I get a response! :)

And yes, let's definitely play soon. Thurs & Fridays are good with us. How bout you?

I am so sorry for what you had to go through and am so glad he is okay. I love that the nurse prayed for a vein. I hope all goes well in the coming week. I see that Mr. Dunbar is wearing a Dodgers shirt, our friends son just got drafted by the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Oh my goodness, what a horrible ordeal! I'm so sorry. :( How sweet that he kept those awesome manners you taught him, even while in pain! And the nurse praying for him was so touching. I hope you got your nap and margarita and pray that you have an uneventful weekend!

There is nothing more scary in my book... being a mommy is the hardest job ever sometimes! We have been there in the ER like that many times for other circumstances ... be still my heart just thinking about it! I am glad Boogie is fine today! Blessings! I will pray for you ~ praying it will pass. In God's grip we handle those "scary" things one day at a time!! =)

Oh my gosh, Irene! That is terrible. How scary for you guys! What a little champ Bogie was. How sweet that he said no thank you. Still has good manners even when they are poking him with a needle. I am so glad he is doing better! I will be praying for a full recovery. Let me know if you need anything.

Goodness gracious, Irene! And I don't know about you but sometimes it's the "after" where I fall apart! I am praying for a full recovery, lots of hydration, and no more falls for the little gentleman.

And a hosta is a green perennial, lily-like plant...BIG green leaves and they need little maintenance and fill in a (shady) yard quite nicely! Mine were given me by a friend from her yard and the little babies (2 years ago) are now BIG adults :)

Oh my goodness...what a fiasco. It sounds like he held up strong. He must have gotten that from his mommy! :) I'll be praying for your little man.

How scary, Irene! Poor babe. Go for the pitcher of ritas. When are we going to start sleeping on floor mats, anyway? Two of GB's worst injuries were from bed falls...

Wow! I didn't have time to visit many blogs yesterday, so I just read this and had tears in my eyes. I can't imaging what you must have been going through! I'll continue to pray for you and for Bogie to back to his old self.
